With the last of summer here, many of my patients in Garden City, NY and Long Beach, NY are firing up the grill one last time be it at the beach or at home. While barbecues are a wonderful way to get outside, be sure to hold back on spicy sauces to top off those juicy burgers.
Spicy foods along with tomatoes can increase the risk of silent reflux where acid comes up from your stomach and irritates your vocal cords.
If you are experiencing:
1. A feeling of a “lump in your throat”
Call us to make an appointment at 516-431-0700. At Evergreen ENT, we will use the most modern technology to thoroughly check your voice box and we will empower you with the educational tools to get back on track!
How times flies! It has been our pleasure to solve our patient’s most complex ear, nose and throat problems in Long Beach, NY for over a decade! During these years, we have been fortunate to see many of patients grow into mature adults, graduate college, get married and then have children.
As an ENT doctor, I love and cherish my profession. It has been and continues to be my honor to care for those in Long Beach, NY and Garden City, NY. When I am able to treat you and you in turn bring family members to see me, I feel privileged to care for them. The best new patients are those that are referred by current patients. I hope to continue to serve Long Beach and Garden City for many decades to come.
Tinnitus is the medical term for noise that patient’s sometimes hear “in their head”, i.e. it is not coming from any external source. This sound can be low or high pitched and most people have experienced it at one time or another. But when tinnitus becomes constant it can quickly move from an intermittent annoyance to a life-altering decline in quality of life.
Did you know that tinnitus is worsened by exposure to loud noises? As the community in Long Beach, NY becomes stronger each day, many people are doing tremendous amounts of construction. With bull dozers, hammering and drilling noise is abundant. So when you are outdoors, even for a short time, remember to think about bring along ear protection such as ear plugs. If you encounter construction during your walk, pop the earplugs in and keep tinnitus away!
Ah summer! With the boardwalk under constructions many of my patients have taken to going directly to the beach. As the summer sun beats down, be sure to remember that dust and debris is still floating around town. With construction on going, pulverized sheet rock, foundation material and insulation material is flying around.
When tiny particles of dust remain in your nose inflammation can occur. This swelling leads to sinus drainage problems and sinus infections can occur. If you are experiencing headaches, facial pressure or chronic fatigue it may be sinusitis. We can help! Call our office for a thorough sinus/nasal evaluation and together we will work to your achieving a better quality of life.
Long Beach Hospital is still closed nine months after hurricane Sandy. In order to get our voice heard in Albany, we must get on the phone and start signing petitions advocating for the re-opening of our medical center. Unless we work hard, together, the legislators in Albany will continue to put up obstacles and our local hospital will remain closed.
As an ENT specialist, I see numerous emergencies where minutes matter. Whether it is a patient on blood thinners who has a life-threatening nosebleed or someone who has a fish bone stuck in their throat, it is vital that we have REAL medical and emergency resources in our community. You deserve it and our entire Long Beach community deserves it! So get on the phone and let the legislators in Albany know that as a barrier island we need a local medical facility. Every voice counts!
I wanted to dedicate a special blog post to give a huge thank you to my Long Beach and Garden City patients for giving me wonderful reviews on healthgrades.com. As technology makes it easier to patients to find a specialist themselves, it is my existing patients who are my first ambassadors, giving new patients a “inside” view of my personality and dedication to serving those in need.
Warm summer days are here! But the sun’s powerful rays can damage your skin anytime you are outside. So protect yourself by wearing sunscreen all day every day, not just when you are going to the pool or beach.
Many moisturizers are now infused with sunscreen. Be sure to look for these type of products the next time you are the pharmacy. By purchasing these high qu
The sun is shining and five seconds the sky gets cloudy and it rains. What is going on with the weather on Long Island? With all of the tumultuous weather shifts, plants have been thrown into a fit of confusion leading to a longer than normal allergy season. When you experience nasal congestion and/or watery eyes, do not use over the counter remedies for more than 3 days. Many of these medicines can be addictive. See us in Long Beach, Garden City or in one of other locations for true long-lasting help.
Ah, summer is here and there is no better place to be than by the beach in Long Beach, NY. But the arrival of summer brings some unique ear, nose and throat challenges. Here are a few things you can do to have fun on the beaches and stay healthy:
Summer is the #1 season for outer ear infections. Otitis externa (outer ear infections) occur when water stays in the ear canal creating a breeding ground for bacteria and fungus.
Keep your ears dry. Use silicone earplugs when at the beach or in the pool.
Blow dry your ears after you swim.
What to watch out for:
If you experience severe ear itching or if you have drainage from your ear, you may have an outer ear infection. See an ENT specialist as soon as possible. At Evergreen ENT in Long Beach we are ready to help you stay on track to enjoy a fantastic Long Island summer!
Wanted to share some very special comments from my balloon sinuplasty patients. Nothing gives me greater pleasure than to drastically improve a patient’s quality of life. Here is what one of my patients had to say after his in-office balloon sinuplasty procedure:
“This procedure changed my life. I have never slept better and I have more energy. Simply put, I am living a better life. Thank you so much Dr. Shah.” – S.N.
